Shocking court testimony reveals that Cassie battles addiction and trauma that stem from her time dating rap mogul Sean “P Diddy” Combs. Casandra Elizabeth Ventura, better known to her fans as “Cassie,” or “Cassie Fine,” opened up about her continued opiate addiction battle in May of this year as she testified against Combs, who was arrested on charges including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking in 2024. Cassie and Combs’ relationship, which spanned over a decade, has been at the forefront of recent court battles and, most recently, the subject of the hit Netflix documentary The Reckoning.
Cassie Battles Addiction, Details Revealed in Shocking Testimony
Cassie rose to fame in the early 2000s as a model and singer, with hits like “Me & U” and “Long Way 2 Go.” However, behind the scenes, Cassie revealed that her rise to fame and her subsequent relationship with Combs worsened and even enabled her addiction to opiates. She testified about the abuse she faced at the hands of Combs, whom she met at 19 years old, and about her use of Suboxone.
According to her testimony, Cassie battles addiction to opiates but has used Suboxone since 2022 to help with her recovery. She also testified she had to attend inpatient rehab and go through EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, therapy to cope with her trauma.
What is Suboxone?
Cassie isn’t alone in relying on Suboxone to manage her addiction. Suboxone is the brand name for a combination medicine that contains buprenorphine and naloxone. Together, these medications help reduce uncomfortable opioid withdrawal symptoms and cravings without giving people the same intense high as opioids.
Does Using Suboxone Mean Cassie Isn’t Sober?
Some people argue that using Suboxone is just replacing one addiction with another, but this isn’t entirely true. While it’s true that buprenorphine is an opioid, it doesn’t activate the same receptors in the brain as much as other opioids. It’s also only available by prescription, which Cassie says she’s had since 2022.
Where is Cassie Now?
While Cassie battles addiction and still relies on Suboxone to stay sober, she’s also made other big changes in life that show she’s well on the road to recovery. The 39-year-old mother of three shares a quiet life with her husband, her former personal trainer Alex Fine, and, according to sources from Us Weekly, plans to keep a low profile.
Us Weekly shared with Yahoo in 2025 that Cassie “is really focused on her family and raising her babies in a peaceful and normal environment right now. It is still hard for her on a day-to-day basis.” However, they also shared that, “She never wants anyone to go through what she’s been through. It’s been the most painful, terrifying experience of her life, but she’s trying to turn that pain into purpose.”
As for Combs, he was sentenced in October of this year to 50 months in jail after being found guilty of several charges, including two counts of transportation for prostitution, and a $500,000 fine.
