Jonathan Bartlett Allen, better known to his 10 million YouTube subscribers as “MrBallen,” celebrates almost two years sober thanks to the help of his wife and a desire to change. In a 2025 interview with former Jackass star Steve-O, MrBallen’s sobriety journey came into view. He opened up about his struggle with alcohol use and said that in the early days of his YouTube career, he would “slam 6 to 12 White Claws” every night after wrapping up filming, quickly crash out, and then wake up the next day and do it over again.
MrBallen’s Sobriety Journey and Recent SiriusXM Partnership
Fortunately, Allen said in a follow-up Facebook post in August of last year, “15 months sober and happier than I’ve ever been…It took my wife intervening in 2024 to make the change, but with her help, I did it.” Allen continues to revel in the success of his YouTube channel, podcast, and charity foundation, all of which focus on victims of true crime and shed a spotlight on mysteries while building suspense and terror. In October 2025, MrBallen even signed an exclusive deal with SiriusXM, giving them exclusive advertising sales rights to The MrBallen Podcast: Strange, Dark & Mysterious on audio and his YouTube channel.
MrBallen Files New Lawsuit
Still, not all is a win for Allen. On January 19, Allen filed a lawsuit in the Delaware Court of Chancery. The lawsuit, Allen v. Witters, alleges that his former business partner, Nick Witters, failed to make appropriate disclosures when seeking an additional share of Ballen Studios and control of its assets, among other issues. From spending money to fund a lavish lifestyle and drug use, the allegations are serious, and only time will tell whether it will have a huge negative impact on MrBallen’s YouTube videos and podcast.
The Road Ahead for the Strange, Dark, and Mysterious
There is hope that MrBallen’s sobriety will stay intact. He has, after all, overcome other challenges during his time as a Navy Seal and has the support of his family along the way. Allen continues to film regularly, uploading three to four times per week to the delight of his millions of followers, with no signs of slowing down any time soon.
